Agartala: A team of Mizoram Government officials has arrived at Parisagar in North Tripura to begin identification of Reang refugees residing in six camps, before final repatriation to their ancestral homes in Mizoram.

S Darlong, sub-divisional magistrate of Panisagar said the district and the sub-divisional administration is fully prepared to provide all help to the visiting team, while Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said adequate security arrangements have been made so that the team can perform their task.

As per the programme, the team will start identification of the inmates first at Casco camp and the process will continue in all the six camps in Panisagar and Kanchanpur sub-divisions. The process is likely to end by August 20.

As per the four-corner agreement signed between the representatives of the Home Ministry, the governments of Mizoram and Tripura and the representatives of the refugees, the repatriation process of over 32,000 refugees are supposed to be completed by September 2019.

Recently a high-level meeting was held at New Delhi where Home Ministry officials made it clear that the repatriation process must be completed by September and there is no possibility of extending the deadline. They also made it clear that the Central Government will stop all relief supply to the camps from October 1.

It may be recalled that the Reangs en-mass crossed over to Tripura from Matith district of Mizoram following a communal clash on October 21,1997 and since then have been residing in Tripura.
