New Delhi: Mizoram Governor Kumanam Rajasekharan on Friday submitted his resignation to President Ramnath Kovind.

If insiders in the BJP are to be believed, Rajasekharan has tendered his resignation to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Thiruvananthapuram. BJP is planning to pit Rajasekharan against senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor.

Rajasekharan, a former Kerala BJP president, took over as Mizoram Governor last year.

President Ramnath Kovind, meanwhile, has accepted the resignation of Kummanam Rajasekharan as Governor of Mizoram.

The President has appointed Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Mizoram, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements for the office of the Governor of Mizoram is made.

BJP sources said that the saffron party is planning to put its senior and experienced leaders against Congress heavyweights across India.
