Mizoram Observes Week Long State-Wide Cleanliness Drive

Mizoram under the initiative of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Department (UD&PA) has taken up a state-wide cleanliness week programme. The cleanliness drive was launched by Mizoram Planning Minister, Lalsawta on Tuesday at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl.

As cleanliness plays a key role in the healthy and happy living of man, it is a must and every state must realize its worth in their respective lands. The Mizoram minister, while launching the cleanliness drive stressed on the development of society through regular practices of cleanliness maintenance. He also showed this confidence that people have become much conscious about maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.

Moreover, the growing importance and interest towards the towns that maintain cleanliness and are ranked high in the cleanliness competition organized by the government under New Economic Development Policy (NEDP) have helped in encouraging people towards cleanliness. The minister, thus, urges people to deliver a collective effort towards cleanliness maintenance. Moreover, the minister gave away prizes to winners of cleanliness competition conducted this year.

This has to be mentioned in this context that Mizoram has long been practising cleanliness in and around the state and has been indulged in it since 1977. In their effort to maintain cleanliness, they are even much ahead of the Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi as well because they started this venture more than three decades before the Swachch Bharat Mission.

Mizoram had even constituted its Mizoram Sanitation Task Force with the objective of keeping terms with Climate Change, cleanliness and sanitation drive. In addition to that, its government had formed the District Sanitation Task Force and Town Sanitation Task Force too in all the eight districts and towns.
