Mizoram tea to make debut at Guwahati Auction Centre

A tea type from Mizoram, will be launched at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre next week. A garden named Liansiam situated in Mizoram's Champhai district will sell tea under the Thingpui mark. Thingpui denotes tea in the Mizo language.

Sujit Bhattacharjee, the managing director of Hills Woodcraft Private Ltd, as quoted by the Telegraph said,"Mizoram is not very well known in the tea world. Hence the company, Hills Woodcraft Private Ltd, that promotes the garden, has taken the bold initiative of promoting its tea under the brand mark Thingpui, through the auctions. This is to ensure that tea buyers know of the new tea from Mizoram."

Bhattacharjee added that tea has been grown in the state in small areas by forming societies but they are not professionally managed.

He said the garden makes exclusive green, premium, and orthodox tea and anticipating a good response from the buyers. The garden is ready to become organic soon. He added the company has hired experts from Darjeeling and Assam to produce the best tea.

Hitherto teas from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura have been sold in the auctions at Guwahati

The garden is providing different grades of orthodox tea in the auctions and the tea will be sold by J Thomas, one of the oldest and largest tea brokerage in the world.

The garden is allotted around 22 hectares and has a factory of its own which is the first registered factory in Mizoram under Tea Board of India.

Guwahati tea action is famous around the world and it is well known for being one of the busiest auction centers for tea in India.
