MLA Guru Jyoti Das' father Passes Away in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: Jagat Chandra Das, the septuagenarian father of Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das, left for heavenly abode at about 11.35 am on January 12 in a private hospital at Amingaon in Kamrup district. He was 77.

Das was suffering from kidney ailments and blood pressure and on January 11 he was admitted in the hospital in a critical stage.

His son Guru Jyoti Das, leaving aside the BJP conference in New Delhi, returned to the hospital that evening. Das, a pious man with his ever familiar smile on his face, after taking retirement from the Public Works Department here in Mangaldai, was deeply involved with various social works. In the last assembly election, while taking part in the poll campaign for his son, he toured all the areas of his constituency on a bicycle. He also earned reputation of an ideal farmer for his deep involvement in farming.

He leaves behind his wife, two sons, including legislator Guru Jyoti Das, a daughter and a host of relatives. On the receipt of the news of his demise, a large number of mourners made a beeline to his residence at Areng of Mangaldai town to offer their last respects. Office bearers of BJP, AGP, Congress, AASU, AJYCP, District Sahitya Sabha, AAMSU, MSA, Mangaldai Media Circle and Chopai Sahitya Sabha offered their condolence to the bereaved family members. A large number of mourners and relatives attended the funeral.
