Mob attack on six Hindi-speaking people at Langkhashi

TINSUKIA,  August 31: Timely arrival of a police team from Tinsukia led by Additiol SP(Hq) Lamhao Doungel saved the lives of six persons who were about to be lynched by an irate mob of 1,000 people at Langkhashi under Bordubi PS in Tinsukia district on Wednesday. While two police personnel were reportedly injured, two police vehicles were also badly damaged due to stone pelting by the mob.

According to reports, six Hindi-speaking persons in an auto rickshaw from Tinsukia reached Khelmati Chariali in Langkhashi and moving suspiciously in the area. Few youths, doubting the motives of these people, locked them in the local Langkhashi Yuba Sangha office and informed the police. As time passed, people from nearby areas gathered and were about to open the room forcefully when the police team arrived with a magistrate.

When they were being rescued, the mob attacked all of them and in the melee both police and the rescued people were physically assaulted. All the six persons hail from Muradabad district of Uttar Pradesh and have been identified as Krish Panda, Shakti Panda, Akalu Panda, Ramesh Panda of village bin gar while rest two are from Kutumba village and have been identified as Ravi Panda and Brijmal Panda. They have been kept at Bordubi PS and investigation is on.
