Mock exercise on earthquake carried out by National Disaster Response Force

KOHIMA: A mock exercise on earthquake was recently conducted by Kohima District Disaster Management Authority in collaboration with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh and State Disaster Management Force (SDRF) at Seikhazou, Kohima recently, stated a release.

The mock exercise carried out evacuation and administration of casualties with first-aid by the NDRF and SDRF personnel. The NDRF-Itanagar team was equipped with Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR), Flood Rescue Operation, Medical First Responder (MFR) and Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear (CBRN).

The earthquake mock exercise was carried out at two buildings supposedly collapsed, which included the Seikhazou Government Higher Secondary School and the Urban Primary Health Centre, Seikhazou where a total number of twenty one casualties were reported. Out of twenty casualties, one was reported to be dead, seven seriously injured who were shifted to the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and thirteen were reported with minor injuries.

At the incident site, a Common Post for Incident and Team Commander was stationed where all the stakeholders were assigned for evacuation exercise. A Medical Post where NDRF and Medical Officers were administering the casualties with first-aid assistance.

After the incident, a de-briefing meet was held where the observers of the mock exercise, Deputy Commandant, Pranab Daimari and Chief Medical Officer, Abir Chowdhury from NDRF Itanagar pointed out that the overall exercise was conducted promptly and successfully by all the concerned stakeholders. However, they suggested for more effective communication system, local stakeholders as first responder, rescue equipment items, more military/Police personnel involvement and setup of information centre near the staging area for such emergency operation in future. Over and above all, they appreciated the Kohima DDMA and SDRF team for their good response time and thanked all the stakeholders for their participation.

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, who is also the Responsible Officer DDMA, Anoop Khinchi stated that the exercise was a great learning for all the stakeholders and thanked the 12 BN NDRF Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh for coming this far and enlightened the participants through the exercise.
