Mohilary hints at 'secret understanding' between BJP and PCDR

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, March 29: The president of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Hagrama Mohilary on Sunday said that there could be some secret understanding between the BJP and People’s Coordition for Democratic Rights (PCDR) to fight in the forthcoming BTC elections.

Mohilary, while talking to media persons on the sidelines of a campaign meeting of BPF candidate for Bargaon constituency Rajib Brahma at South Aflagaon, said, “A secret understanding between the BJP and PCDR cannot be ruled out as the leaders of both BJP and PCDR are seen working in close connivance during election campaign.” He said some BJP leaders had been campaigning for PCDR candidates just to wipe out BPF from power. “BPF will win in 35 seats to form the next government in BTC,” he said adding that the PCDR or any other party that was contesting the council election would face humiliating defeat.

Addressing the people’s gathering at South Aflagaon and Serfanguri, Mohilary said the BJP candidates were misleading the people with false promises to woo the voters. He said the BPF had been working for the all-round development of the region.  He admitted that the BPF failed to satisfy all the people during the last 10 years and many people did not get government benefits. To ensure benefits to all people, it would take time, he said adding that the BPF would try to fulfil all promises if it returned to power. He also said the BPF had not opposed the inclusion of Koch Rajbongshis in the ST list and said they would try to address the problems of Rabha and Nepali communities in the region. He called upon people to vote for BPF candidates for peace and development in the region.

MLA Pradip Kr. Brahma said the PCDR had been harping on development, peace, unity and security but they never worked for the people. The vision of PCDR to bring a change in BTC would spell doom as no one could bring change without having the spirit to work for the people. He said the BPF was the only party in BTC that had brought enormous development for the people of backward region. There could be some mistakes on the part of BPF in the past but the party was always ready for rectification, he said adding that the BPF would work for all communities if it returned to power.

The meeting was also attended by BPF candidate Rajib Brahma at South Aflagaon and Indra Mohan Brahma at Serfanguri. Similar meetings were also held at Bismuri, Salakati and Dwimalu Club at Kokrajhari village in Kokrajhar town on the same day where the BPF president Hagrama Mohilary spoke.

On the other hand, BJP candidate of Dotma constituency Bibhuti Borgoyary, while talking to mediapersons, at Serfanguri said the BJP would win in over 30 seats in the forthcoming BTC election. Borgoyary, who was the organizing secretary of the Kokrajhar district BPF and joined the BJP to fight from Dotma, said the people of the region desired a change in BTC as the ruling BPF had failed to bring good governce but was involved in massive corruption where only a section of people were taking all opportunities. He said Dotma constituency was lagging behind in different sectors and minority communities like Rabha, Santhal, Nepali were being deprived of welfare schemes of the government.

Replying to questions, Borgoyary said people would see swift pick up of development, security to people, peace and unity among all if BJP came to power. He hoped that his constituency would improve in all spheres if BJP formed government at BTC.

PCDR candidate Jwmwi Wary from Dotma constituency also attended number of meetings in Dotma today and addressed a public gathering at Batabari in Dotma. He was also accompanied by PCDR leaders. The PCDR also expected that their candidate would win in Dotma seat with clean majority.
