More incidents of arson reported

SHILLONG, May 9: More cases of arson involving government property have been reported from Khasi-Jaintia Hills region in the aftermath of the arrest of KSU president Daniel Khyriem.

A poly house belonging to the Horticulture Department at Diewlieh near Umsning in Ri-Bhoi district was damaged after it was allegedly burnt down by miscreants.

The incident occurred on Friday night at around 9 pm.

In another case of arson, miscreants hurled petrol bomb at Soil Conservation office at Jowai West Jaintia Hills.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Saturday around 2 am. However, no damage was reported.

Meanwhile, in other incident, unknown miscreants hurled petrol bomb in the office of Bio-Resource Development Centre, Agriculture Department at 5th Mile, Upper Shillong which resulted in the damaged of the curtains in the Directors chamber.

It may be noted the pro-ILP group had given the state government 48 hour deadline to drop cases against them during their agitation in 2013. The deadline ended on Saturday evening. The NGOs will meet on Monday to decide the future course of action.
