More protest by AAPSU against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

Itanagar, May 20:The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) will organize a sit-in demonstration against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 at IG Park tennis court here tomorrow. The North East Students' Organisation, the AAPSU is carrying out the protest to express dismay and anguish over the proposed legislation which aims to grant citizenship to people from minority communities - Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians - from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh after six years of residence in India.

Informing that AAPSU will organize more democratic movements under the aegis of NESO in the near future against the contentious Bill, AAPSU deputy spokesperson Nepha Wangsa said, it felt "the Union Government has not done the needful to understand the problems and the aspirations of the people from the state. It is indeed a matter of great worry that our culture, social structure and way of life remain unknown to rest of the country despite more than 70 years of attaining Independence."

"The proposed bill is one among the latest examples that the lawmakers in our country have no or very little regards for the indigenous populace of Arunachal Pradesh and the entire North East region in general," Wangsa said in a statement here.

"The entire state is infested with illegal migrants who have entered and encroached upon every aspect of our social fabrics in the eastern part," he said adding, the AAPSU has been carrying out rigorous democratic movement against the illegal settlement of Chakma & Hajong refugees, Tibetans and other illegal migrants in the state.
