MSCW decries crime against women

SHILLONG, April 5: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) condemned the gruesome murder of a 30-year- old woman at Khliehriat on Wednesday and urged the district administration to take up the matter seriously.

The woman identified as Fullness Lyngdoh lived in a rented house at Dkhiah behind Khliehriat police station in East Jaintia Hills. She was found lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom as her throat was slit. However, the Meghalaya police is yet to b the culprits.

Addressing the reporters in the city on Thursday, MSCW chairperson Theilin Phanbuh said, “We are very disappointed and saddened by what has happened. Crimes against women in the State continue to increase.”

She said such incidents of crimes against women should be condemned and the police should take steps to apprehend the culprits involved in the killing of the 30-year-old woman.

The MSCW chairperson said that the commission would also send a letter to the SP of East Jaintia Hills to take up the matter seriously.

“Crimes against women have increase especially in Jaintia Hills. Hence, we would want to step up our awareness programmes in this area with the help of the district administration, village dorbar and various NGOs,” she said.

On the alleged murder of a 23-year-old woman from Meghalaya in her flat in Delhi, she said, “We have submitted a letter to the Delhi State Commission for Women (DSCW) to follow up on the case and have also contacted the SP of Nongpoh in which he has informed the commission that the matter is being investigated by both the Delhi and Meghalaya police.”
