Mysterious death of woman triggers protests in Pathsala

PATHSALA, March 14: Mysterious death of a 30-year-old woman at Pathsala in Barpeta district triggered massive protests on Friday at Pathsala town. Family members of the deceased has alleged that she was murdered by her mother-in-law and husband. Members of the ari Mukti Sangram Samiti (NMSS) have demanded exemplary punishment against the accused.  Family members alleged that businessman Kankan Talukdar along with her mother Subhadra Talukdar murdered his wife Binita Talukdar on March 9.  

After the reports of Binitas's death spread in the area, hundreds of protesters from his tive and adjourning areas assembled in front of the house of Talukdar and staged protests. The protesters were demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. According to the reports minor stone pelting was also witnessed at few places.

Meanwhile, Police have arrested Kankan and her mother Subhadra following a complaint filed by the family members of the woman at Pathsala police station.   Meanwhile Binitas's mother holding her husband and in-laws responsible for murdering her daughter said, "My daughter called me at 7.30 pm that day and informed me that her husband was forcing her to leave the home soon after her phone got switched off. Barely 15 minutes later her husband had called to inform me that Binita has committed suicide. He also asked me to reach the hospital. But when I reached there she was dead."

"My daughter is dead but her killers should be given an exemplary punishment so that nobody's daughter suffer like Binita," she said with tearful eyes. "We want justice .No other woman should become a victim the way our daughter became," she added.

"A man who tortures his wife and hangs her should be hanged in public. There is no doubt this innocent women has been murdered and her killers should be punished at an earliest," said Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Madhab Das.   "We have started the investigation and have arrested her husband for questioning. The case will be cracked soon," said a police official of Pathsala police station.
