GUWAHATI, June 7: Mystery continues to shroud the death of businessman and engineer Kak Choudhury in a fire that broke out in Simon House, his own residence at Paltan Bazar in the city, on Sunday last.

Choudhury’s brother-in-law Ronjeev Das filed an FIR at Paltan Bazar police station in this regard. A case (459/16) has already been registered in that connection. Police investigation into the case is underway.

Ranjeev Das today said: “This is a well planned murder. Someone known to him was observing him closely. Others saw him going out of the building at 1.30 pm on Sunday. People in the locality saw the fire blazing around 11 at night on Sunday. When his room was blazing he must have run helter-skelter. How come his body remain prostrated on the bed? It seems as though something was done not to let him take any escaping bid. He might also be left senseless before the fire. Or the murderer might have left a bunch of incense sticks after setting them afire so as to cause the fire in his room. Two months back, he willed his property in the me of his doctor son Bikram And Choudhury. On the other, he had a court case with three of his tents regarding their rental agreement. It seems that a racket was involved in the murder. This apart, his persol pistol is also missing, so is his diamond ring. His caretaker, Biswajit Ray, has been absconding. His arrest will lead to the revelation of many facts relating to the murder. What’s even more suspicious is that a locker was found in the middle of the room where his body was found. The locker does have spots that say that an attempt was made to open it. Poisoning through his soup can’t be ruled. If that was done, that could have been done through Biswajit. If a bigger racket is involved in the killing, the body of Biswajit may be recovered someday.”
