DIGBOI: In a mysterious incident that took here at Mohong No 1 in Bordumsa under Tinsukia district, Moni Moran alias Priyanka Chetiya Moran (19), the wife of Modhu Moran (21), was found dead on Sunday morning.

Her completely burnt body was recovered by Bordumsa Police. “The deceased was married to Modhu Moran nine months ago and the couple was not in good terms as the husband, who later turned a drug peddler, resorted to domestic violence and inflicted mental and physical torture on his wife,” said a neighbour.

Though police suspect it to be an act of suicide, yet an angry mob shouted slogans alleging that the victim was murdered following a domestic scuffle earlier in the morning. The SI of Bordumsa Police Station, Hemchandar Baruah, while speaking to this journalist, said that the prima facia of the incident revealed that the act was suicidal in nature. Baruah said that the agitated crowd was preventing the police from sending the body for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, hundreds of infuriated local people shouted slogans against the police in front of the police station and demanded the police to hand over the husband and mother-in-law of the victim to the public. The police took Modhu Moran and his mother Debanti Moran into legal custody for investigation.

Later in the evening, a scuffle between the angry mob and police was also reported. Sensation gripped the border area of Bordumsa following the resistance of the mob to allow the corpse to be taken for post-mortem. The exact nature of the incident leading to the commission of the crime was yet to be officially ascertained. Tension prevailed in the premises of the police station till filing of the report.
