Nagaland Governor appoints 5 persons as brand ambassadors for Swachh Bharat Mission of North East

The Governor of Nagaland and National Brand Ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission, P B Acharya has appointed five individuals as Brand Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission for North East.

A release from the Kohima Raj Bhawan stated that PB Acharya has appointed Neelam Dutta of Assam, Ihohal Singh of Manipur, Ram Pada Jamatia of Tripura and Shoupen Phom of Nagaland as Brand Ambassadors of “North East-NAMASTE States Swachh Bharat Mission” committee. Acharya has also appointed Sotai Kri of Arunachal Pradesh as the Convener of the Committee.

Acharya has devised Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Tripura as NAMASTE states of the Northeast.

The governor has asked the newly appointed members to send the quarterly report of their activities and initiatives accompanied by photographs to him.

A press release from PRO to the Governor stated the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014 with a target to build one crore individual household toilets besides 2.52 crore community toilet seats. The mission wants to eliminate open defecation and manual scavenging, along with promoting modern and scientific municipal solid waste management. The mission targets to accomplish a Clean India by October 2, 2019, which will be Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary.

The Governor affirmed that the Brand Ambassadors for the other North East-NAMASTE States will be nominated soon. “North East-NAMASTE States Swachh Bharat Mission” Committee will work in coordination with State Committee appointed by respective State Government.

Swachh Bharat has been getting positive response across thousands of cities in India even Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in his 72nd Independence Day speech reiterated that that according to a World Health Organisation’s (WHO) report, 3,00,000 children had been saved due to Swachh Bharat Mission.
