Nagaon Forest Division Collects more than Rs 15 Lakh as Fine within 3-4 Months

NAGAON: The forest officials under the Divisional Forest Office, Nagaon, during a special drive against the illegal trade of forest resources within 3-4 months of this year, has registered more than 238 cases in the district, including carrying, smuggling and transportation of illegal forest resources and also seized 205 vehicles, DFO of Nagaon, Suvashish Das said on Monday. In an interaction with this correspondent, DFO Das said that within those 3-4 months the division collected more than Rs 15 lakh from various fines imposed. On the other hand, in the year 2017-18, the collected revenue from the same sector in the district was more than Rs 42 lakh and more than 111 cases had been registered, he added further.

DFO Das said that there were total 40 registered timber shops, especially in Nagaon Sadar range, in which the timber traders kept various categories of timber which were supplied or brought from other districts of the State and the officials had a strict watch over all these timber shops. For carrying stone and sand without valid documents from depots to other places, the forest officials seized hundreds of vehicles in the district during the 3-4 months of the current year 2018-19. He added that the number of seized vehicles, registration of various cases and collection of fine would be increased in remaining months of the year.
