Nagaon Police nabs eight  for alleged moral policing

NAGAON, June 25: Sensation prevailed in Nagaon following a case of moral policing where a couple was allegedly thrashed severely for the entire night on Saturday for having an illicit relationship at Jhumurmur village under Kathiatoli Outpost by villagers in large numbers which drew sharp reactions from all sections of people, the district as well as the entire State. Interestingly, this is the third moral policing case which occurred in the State. In connection with the incident, Nagaon Police apprehended total eight persons from Jhumurur village. According to the sources, the nabbed persons have been identified as Atul Boruah, Suren Das, Kritinath Hazarika, Bhaben Dad, Yadov Borua, Deben Ch Das and Krishna Mohan Nath.

Villagers in large numbers on Saturday night went to the house of the woman who was married to another person and caught her with another man. This man, Abbal Uddila, is married and belongs to the neighbouring Tubuki village. He tried to escape from the spot but failed. Subsequently, the villagers thrashed both of them for the entire night and on Sunday morning some locals intimated the local police and the police rushed to the spot and rescued the couple in a very critical condition. Later on, the police admitted them in Kathiatoli Hospital. But considering their serious condition, they were sent to Nagaon BP Hospital. Police registered a case and are investigating the incident. So far, Nagaon Police have apprehended total eight villagers.
