Nandita Talukdar from Hajo becomes the Youngest candidate to contest in Panchayat Polls

Guwahati/Hajo: For the first time in the history of Panchayat Polls, a 22-year-old Gauhati University student came forward to contest in the forthcoming Assam Panchayat Polls which is scheduled to be held in two phases in Assam on December 5 and 9.

Nandita Talukdar who is a postgraduate first-semester student from Gauhati University is first in his family to fight the Panchayat poll on Congress ticket from No 1 Panchatirtha Zila Parishad from Hajo.

Reportedly, she was offered the ticket by Congress leader Dulu Ahmed.

Interestingly, Nandita is reported to be the youngest candidate this time to contest the rural body polls.

Speaking to the media, Nandita said, "She is keen to work for the betterment of the people in her area."

She further said that she wants to see equitable socio-cultural and economic development in the area. "I want to fulfill the dreams of Congress President Rahul Gandhi for new India. If given a chance then, I want to provide a platform to the younger generation in my area," added Nandita.

“Despite many assurances from various governments and political leadership our panchayat is far from development. There are many burning issues that I want to plead and resolve,” Nandita added before the media.

She also claimed that she is feeling that “I am glad that I am the youngest candidate to contest the polls. I will work hard to achieve my aim,” Nandita added further.
