Narendra Modi Arrives At Uttarakhand, Will Visit Kedarnath

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Uttarakhand today on a two-day official visit during which he will also offer prayers at the shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath. The Prime Minister will visit the two temples ahead of the last and seventh phase of Lok Sabha elections which will be held on May 19.

PM Narendra Modi will visit the Kedarnath temple today while he will visit the Badrinath temple on tomorrow morning before returning to Delhi in the afternoon.

In the last phase of elections, 59 parliamentary constituencies including Varanasi will go to polls tomorrow and the results will be declared on May 23.

Based on the grounds of an official visit, the Election Commission is learnt to have given permission for PM’s visit to Uttarakhand but the poll body has reminded the Prime Minister’s office that the Model Code of Conduct is still in force and that he should not violate the MCC.

An official of the election commission said that the visit is official and therefore it can be undertaken. But the office of the Prime Minister has been reminded that the poll code is still in force. The security has been tightened near the shrine which is located at 11,755 ft above the sea level ahead of PM Modi’s visit to the temple.

The Prime Minister has visited the holy shrine of Lord Shiva multiple times during his current term. Modi has visited the temple on November last during Diwali.

Modi has made a visit to the temple twice in 2017, once in May after the holy shrine opened following a six-month winter break and again in October before the temple again gets closed for winters. This year the temple was opened for pilgrims on May 9 after the winter break of six months.

Snowfall graced Kedarnath at regular intervals from January first week to April last week and the township is still covered with about over one feet snow, according to locals.
