Narendra Modi casts his vote today at Ahmedabad

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote today at Ahmedabad in Gujarat and appealed to the people to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

Casting his vote, Narendra Modi said, "The voter ID is much more powerful than the IED of terrorists." Modi cast his vote at Nishan High School in the Ranip area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad city. He has come in an open jeep in the morning and exercised his franchise as an Indian citizen.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah welcomed him outside the school and accompanied him to the booth. Modi said, "I feel blessed after casting my vote in this biggest festival of democracy. The voter ID is much more powerful than an IED used by the terrorists. I also appeal to the people to come out in large numbers to vote in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections."

After casting his vote, the Prime Minister walked a few distance from the polling booth and also had a brief interaction with the media. He also greeted thousands of people while entering the polling booth who had gathered on both sides of the road.

Before moving to Ahmedabad to cast his vote, the Prime Minister met his mother to seek blessings in Gandhinagar.

Modi in a tweet in this morning said, "I urge all those who are voting in today's phase of Lok Sabha polls to do so in record numbers. Your vote is precious and will shape the direction our nation takes in the years to come."

The Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat for all the 26 parliamentary constituencies is underway today in the third phase of polls and the contest is primarily between the BJP and the Congress. In 2014, the BJP had won all the 26 seats in Gujarat.

The third phase of polls is underway at 117 seats across 15 states and two union territories.
