National Assessment and Accreditation Council Team Visits DNGC, Submits Report

ITANAGAR: A peer team from Bangalore-based National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has conducted the third cycle of national assessment and accreditation process at Dera Natung Government College (DN GC) here.

The assessment and accreditation process was conducted on February 14 and 15 last, an official release informed here on Sunday.

The NAAC team comprised former vice principal of Odisha-based Utkal University of Culture, Dr AK Pattanayak as chairperson, retired professor Dr Manju Jaika as member coordinator, and Mumbai-based LS Rahela College of Arts and Commerce principal Dr Debajit Sarkar as member.

In his presentation to the team, DNGC Principal Dr N T Rikam highlighted the journey of the college since its establishment on 6 September, 1979. He also enumerated the achievements and future plans of the college as it enters its 40 years of existence.

DNGC Zoology HoD Dr P Nanda presented the self-study report of the 2013-18 assessment period. Individual departments and cells of the college also made PowerPoint presentations and interacted with the team.

Later, the peer team held an interaction with representatives of the government, headed by Education Secretary Madhu Rani Teotia, Higher and Technical Education Director Dr Tayek Talom, and a host of officers from the higher and technical education directorate, the police, and the administration.

In her address, Teotia underscored the importance of NAAC assessment for overall growth of higher educational institutes, and reiterated the government’s commitment to improve the education sector by enhancing the budgetary allocations.

Later, the team visited the library, departments, cells and centres of the college and engaged in interactions and verification of documents and records. It also held separate group interactions with stakeholders, such as the alumni, parents, guardian, students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff.

Besides inspecting the facilities and infrastructure, the team held an exit meeting with the principal before finalizing its report. The team conveyed its observations and suggestions for overall development of the institution, and a copy of the report was handed over to the principal by the chairperson.

DNGC has been assessed twice by the NAAC, in 2006 and 2012, and acquired a modest grading of B+ and B, respectively, the release added.
