Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister and president of the Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) Conrad K Sangma looks buoyant after the exit polls predicted that the NDA will be back in power at the Centre. Sangma’s views were solicited by newspersons on the sidelines of a function held at Shillong on Monday. Even as he said that exit polls are ‘mere exit polls’ and the final results will only come out on May 23; he, however, added that exit polls do give a trend of the likely outcome.

The Chief Minister and his party is known for its proximity to the NDA dispensation and it is not surprising to hear the insinuation of his upbeat mood. “The averages of the exit poll result also show that NDA is mostly likely to come back,” stated Sangma

Commenting further on the exit polls and its predictions, Sangma said, “If that is the case (as predicted), it is clearly a very strong mandate in favour of the leadership of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country.” The Chief Minister also added that under the NDA, the country has seen development and if the exit polls is reflected in the actual result day, more development can be expected in the future.

On the two parliamentary seats in the State, the Sangma said that he is confident that the two candidates fielded by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) will come out victorious. The common candidate of the MDA from the Shillong seat is Jemino Mawthoh of the UDP while Agatha Sangma of the NPP is the common candidate for the Tura seat.
