National People’s Party demands repoll at two polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of National People’s Party (NPP) has urged the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for conducting repolling at Taba and Nampe polling stations under Koloriang Assembly constituency in Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh.

NPP vice-president Nima Sangey Saling who called on CEO Kaling Tayeng here on Tuesday apprised him about the fact that many genuine voters were not allowed to vote at both the polling stations during repoll which was held on April 27.

Quoting reports from party candidate Pani Taram from the constituency and his election agent Arun Yangfo, the party’s State unit president Gicho Kabak had written a representation to the CEO on Tuesday stating that the genuine voters were escorted by police forces from Koloriang but they were stuck at Pagam because there was firing at Taba village. “The magistrate and police officers on duty have ensured 147 genuine voters of Taba polling station to exercise their franchise but on repoll day, they were not allowed to cast their votes. The genuine voters were badly tortured and maximum of them were forcefully dragged out from the Taba village,” the representation alleged.

“Instead of genuine voters of Taba polling station, the BJP supporters used outsiders whose voter list was not enlisted,” the representation pointed out further alleging that a person was allowed to caste vote repeatedly for more than five times and more than 50 bogus votes were casted.

The representation further stated that genuine voters of Nampe polling station were also not allowed to exercise their adult franchise.

During the meeting, Tayeng assured Saling to take the matter with the concerned authority urgently and sought for cooperation to maintain peace in the area for free and fare conduct of election in the constituency.

Considering the sensitivity and prevailing law and order situation, the NPP suggested the CEO to conduct re-polling centrally at Koloriang to avoid any law and order problems.

The party also requested for deployment of sufficient force for free and fair conduct of re-polling at Taba and Nampe polling stations, a press release informed here on Wednesday.
