National Press day observed across Assam

Tezpur: The District Information and Public Relations Sonitpur in association with the Sonitpur Journalist Union celebrated National Press Day here at its office premises on Friday.

A meeting was held on the occasion which was chaired by Sonitpur Journalist Union working president Sanjib Hazarika in the presence of Dr Pranjit Hazarika, Professor of Tezpur College, Hemanta Baruah, President of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, DIPRO Sonitpur Neena Baruah and members of Sonitpur Journalist Union. Hemanta Kumar Baruah, attending as the chief guest, explained the significance of the day and appealed all the mediapersons to maintain the ethics of the journalism while they discharge their duties. He also urged mediapersons to play a positive role for the betterment of society. Professor Dr Pranjit Hazarika and Sanjib Hazarika also addressed the meeting.

Earlier, DIPRO Neena Baruah welcomed all present and explained the aims and objectives of observing National Press Day.

Diphu: The district press club of Karbi Anglong observed National Press Day at Kalakendra, Diphu. The programme started at 10am by hosting of the press club flag by president Kiri Ronghang and general secretary Danielson Bey. A meeting was also held at Kalakendra conference hall which was attended by all working journalists across the district.

NAGAON: Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon Biswajit Pegu while addressing a function held on the occasion of National Press Day at Nagaon Press Club said that the advanced technology of the era has brought a massive change in the genre of journalism in the entire world and the society would assume or grab journalism only when all would approach or take these new changes very positively. In the function organized by Nagaon district administration in collaboration with Nagaon Press Club and DIPRO, Nagaon, DC, B Pegu handed over a cheque of Rs 20,000 to Nagaon Press Club for the fund of journalists welfare.

Subsequently, Dr Surajit Kumar Bhagawati, principal of Nagaon ADP College also donated Rs 5,000 to the fund for journalists’ welfare. A seminar on the ethics of journalism and challenges in digital era was held where educationists like Dr Sarat Borkotoki, principal of Nowgong College, Dr Surajit Kumar Bhagawati, senior professor of Nowgong College Dr Chintamoni Sarma, veteran scholar and litterateur Roti Mohan Nath delivered lectures on the topic. The president of Nagaon Press Club, Kanak Hazarika anchored the seminar. Around hundred of journalists of the district took part in the seminar.

Kokrajhar: Along with the rest of the country, the 52nd National Press Day was observed at Chowki along Indo Bhutan border in Baksa district by BTC Journalists Association under the sponsorship of Information and Public Relations department, BTC. The Baksa district committee of BTC Journalists Association hosted the National Press Day with two days programme. As part of the programme, the president of BTC Journalists Association Gautam Jyoti Talukdar hoisted the organization’s flag while vice president Khrwmsat Basumatary paid homage followed by plantation of saplings by DFO, Baksa Bhabesh Das. The EM of BTC Ansumwi Khunggur Boro who graced the occasion as the chief guest inaugurated the National Press Day by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The souvenir brought out on the occasion was also released by the chief guest and dignitaries of the programme.
