Haflong: The Chief Executive Member of NC Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa expressed serious concern over alleged negligence of forest officials in the matter of killing of the rarest variety of deer.

In a Facebook post, Gorlosa said that it was a case of total negligence of the Forest Department and stern departmental action would be taken against the Forest Range Officer of the area, Tuhin Langthasa for gross negligence of duty and insincerity.

The CEM said that on being informed about the killing of rare white deer at Zion village, he directed two of his Members of Autonomous Council, Nojit Kemprai and Ratan Jarambusa, to visit the village and to investigate. They raided the house and recovered the dried skin of white deer and its leg. On investigation, it was found that the deer was hunted by Banlal Hrangkhol of Piza village and had been arrested along with his associate hunter. This species of white deer is very rare and endangered and falls under the protection of the Wildlife Protection Act.
