NCHAC CEM resigns before no-confidence motion

Haflong, June 9: The no-confidence motion could not be moved as Debojeet Thaosen tendered his resigtion from the post of chief executive member (CEM) of NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) to the Governor appointed pro-term chairman Suanthangjem Hrangkhol at 10:10 am on Thursday. The special session for no-confidence motion could be moved at 11:00 am as ordered by the Assam Governor.

The session was ordered by the Assam Governor after majority of the members of the autonomous council requested for no-confidence motion against the CEM of the council. Earlier on June 6, chairman Ngamrothang Hmar submitted his resigtion to the house which was accepted by the Governor, after which the Governor appointed a pro-tem chairman till the election of the new chairman of NCHAC.

After the resigtion of Debojeet Thaosen, MACs like Samuel Changsan, Niranjan Hojai, Prkanta Warisa, Kulendra Daolagupu and others expressing concern over delaying tactics and suggested to bring anti-defection bill by amending the Constitution.

The NC Hills Autonomous Council was unstable state since October 15 last year, resulting in inconvenience for the people of Dima Hasao. The employees of NCHAC are yet to get their salaries for last several months.

ST Jem Hrangkhol, pro-term chairman, said that as per the Governor’s direction the no-confidence motion against Debojeet Thaosen could not be moved as Thaosen tendered his resigtion to him on Thursday. Election for the new Chief Executive Member, NCHAC, will be held on Saturday and on Friday nomition papers will be submitted.

Mishan Ranjan Das, former MLA and Dima Hasao BJP in-charge, while talking to media persons, said that the BJP was going to form the council in NC Hills as they had more than two-third majority.
