NCHISF demands payment of pending compensation

Haflong, Feb 11: With a plea to undertake immediate necessary action, the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum, on behalf of the people of Dima Hasao, met the General Mager, Northeast Frontier Railway and submitted a memorandum detailing their demands at Mahur on Friday.

The memorandum, signed by David Keivom, president and Paoneilun Changsan, general secretary, stated that in pursuance of the former meeting and resolutions made with the General Mager (Construction) in his conference hall at Maligaon on November 24, 2016, it was decided in the meeting to pay all necessary compensation within two months time but till date no payment has been made. The Gauhati High Court had issued order dated 22/07/2015 passed by Justice B.K Sharma Case No: MC 761/2014 and WP(C) No.728/2014  to compensate the Affected Peoples Co-ordition Committee (APCC- comprising of a cluster of 14 villages) although till date this order was of no avail. Hence, the NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum demanded immediate payment of all pending compensation.

Other demands included immediate construction of approach road to New Haflong, Mahur and New Harangajao Stations, all Grade IV jobs of Railway under N.C Hills district must be reserved for indigenous local citizens, installation of ticket booking counter at Haflong town, Mahur and New Harangajao Stations, stoppage of all passenger/express/mail trains at Mahur and New Harangajao Stations and foot overbridges at Mahur, New Harangajao and Ditokcherra Railway Station.
