NCHISF serves ultimatum to Railways to submit damage assessment report

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG, April 27: The N C Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum (NCHISF) has threatened  to launch an indefinite blockade if the authorities of the NF Railway and the NHAI fail to submit its assessment report on or before April 30 regarding the damage of land caused due to  ongoing works of the Railway and the NHAI.

NCHISF in a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of  Dima Hasao here on April 22 last has stated this.

The memorandum maintained that in pursuance with the District Magistrate notification on February 25, 2015 regarding Joint Inspection Cum Assessment Committee on compensation for land affected areas of villages under N.C Hills District allegedly damaged by activities of the Railways and NHAI construction companies, the NCHISF would like to bring to the  notice of the DC for necessary action.

A joint inspection as per the office notification on land damages by the work of the Railway and NHAI was carried out and necessary record statements of the affected people along with pictorial and video graphic evidences were taken from the affected villages.

Whereas, the work of the Joint Assessment is moving in a very slow pace due to the ‘adamant’ attitude of the Railway and NHAI. The work of the joint assessment in regards to the dwelling house and land damages by the railway construction is now coming to a halt after partial assessment of land covering only few areas. In the contrary, land assessment under the NHAI is still pending due to the non-compliance of the notification of the Joint Inspection and Assessment Committee .

In this light, the NCHISF requested  to take immediate necessary action against the Railway and NHAI Authority to immediately proceed with the joint assessment committee for fil land assessment allegedly damaged by the Railway and NHAI due to the ongoing construction and to submit its report on or before the April 30 without fail. Failing which, the NCHISF would be Compelled to launch an indefinite blockade of the ongoing Railway and NHAI works in Dima Hasao district.
