NDA to Win All 14 Seats in Lok Sabha: Assam BJP chief

BJP’s Assam unit President Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Tuesday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was confident of winning all the 14 Lok Sabha seats from the state in 2019.

“We hope to win all the 14 seats from Assam,” Dass said.

Dass added that all partners of the alliance in the state are together.

On being questioned about the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) going along to the polls in 2019, the sate BJP chief denied any such developments on the ground. “We have begun our organisational work in Assam. Seat sharing will be decided by the BJP central leadership, ” Dass added.

Speaking on the upcoming panchayat polls in Assam, he said a decision-making committee had been formed which also consist of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

There has been speculation that AGP might decide to fight the upcoming Panchayat and Lok Sabha polls alone, as there appears to be rift between the BJP and the regional party over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The AGP has threatened to pull out of the alliance, if the BJP goes ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Ever since the visit of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Citizenship Bill to Assam, there has been widespread protests all over the state, with organizations like Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) leading from the front.
