NEHUTA condemns sexual harassment in campus

From A Correspondent

Shillong, Dec 1: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers' Association (NEHUTA) has taken a serious note of the growing instances of sexual harassment in the university campus and condemned such acts in the strongest possible terms. The NEHUTA has also demanded strictest action against those found guilty of indulging in such acts. "Such acts are an expression of deep-rooted patriarchal and misogynistic mindset that reflects existing structures of power," NEHUTA president Xavier Mao said. "The University campus is expected to be a democratic, egalitarian and gender-sensitive space. It is important that we make conscious and concerted attempts to keep that intact," the NEHUTA added.

According to the teachers' body of the university, violation of dignity and honour of a woman is a condemble act and must be fought tooth and il both at administrative (punishing those found indulging in such violation) and also at ideological levels (by delegitimizing regressive ideology of patriarchy).
