NESO showers gratitude on people of North-East

Shillong: Terming the inability of the BJP-led government inability to table the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, on the floor of the Rajya Sabha as a ‘moral victory’ to the indigenous people of the North-east, the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) in its congralutary statement despatched from New Delhi on Wednesday stated that it is due to the united and concerted efforts of the people of the North-east, that the Central Government has not been able to table the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 on the floor of the Rajya Sabha.

It stated, “NESO would like to thank all the organizations who have worked very hard and sacrificed a lot to oppose this draconian Bill. On this occasion, it is imperative to also thank the different State Governments of the North East for taking a bold stand on this issue”

The NESO also conveyed its gratitude to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the Government of Mizoram led by Zoramthanga, different students’ unions, social organisations, women organisations and Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar,

“NESO would also like to express its deep sense of appreciation to the different political parties whom we have met and have extended their unstinted support to this cause, particularly the Shiv Sena, Congress (I), SP, BJD, TMC, DMK, SAD, NPP, AGP, TDP, BPF and other political parties who have extended their support in opposing this Bill”, the statement said.

Moreover, the NESO stated that it will not forget the people who were injured during this movement especially in Tripura, Manipur and Assam. Issuing a strong warning to the Government of India that it will fight and struggle for the protection and survival of the indigenous people of North-East, the statement further said, “NESO would like to give a strong warning to the Government of India not to adopt and implement policies which is detrimental to the interest of indigenous people of North-east.”

A jubilant chairman of NESO Samuel Jyrwa told The Sentinel over phone from New Delhi that after meeting the Meghalya Chief Minister this afternoon they are also contemplating meeting the leaders of other political parties who have supported their cause.
