Tezpur: Tezpur University (TU) kicked off its new academic year with the enrolment of nearly 1,200 new students and by introducing new programmes of studies. The university, which was recently ranked among the top 20 small universities in the world by Times Higher Education, introduced two new master degree programmes in open and distance learning mode - MA in English and MA in Sociology under its Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL). Established in 2012, CODL was already offering Masters in Mass Communication along with four Postgraduate Diploma programmes. All the master programmes under CODL are recognized by UGC and are regarded as equivalent to regular degrees. Apart from these distant courses, the university also enrolled law students for the first time in the university.

“We emphasize on preparing learner-friendly materials using upgraded technological devices and try to minimize the absence of teacher centric mode facilitated by face-to-face learning and enhance the possibility of reaching the learners with maximum output,” Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of CODL, said while commented on the way programmes were designed in CODL.

“Our programmes cover diverse angles and deliver both theoretical as well as practical input to the learners. The objective is to reach to the less privileged sections of learners handicapped by geographical location,” Prof Das added.
