New fish species found in Lohit

Itagar, Oct 27: A team of scientists from Itagar regiol centre of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), has discovered a new species of fish from remote Anjaw district recently. The species belonging to genus Physoschistura has been discovered by the survey team of the ZSI from Lohit River at Walong under in the district, an official communiqué informed here today. Lakpa Tamang, who along with Dr. Bikramjit Sinha led the survey team, described the new species and desigted the me as Physoschistura walongensis in remembrance of the area Walong. Till date, Tamang has contributed 10 new species from various water bodies of the state. He has also predicted existence of more new species in the remote areas of the state, the communiqué added.
