New land act oppressive, anti-people: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee

Itanagar, Sept 21: Expressing apprehension over Arunachal Pradesh Land Settlement and Records Amendment Act, 2018 (APLS&RA) which was passed by the Assembly on May 7 this year, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) had formed an eight-member committee headed by general secretary Chera Taya as chairperson to address issues created by the Act.

Alleging that the amendment by Pema Khandu government is ‘anti-people’, Taya in a statement said that raising land revenue per sq mtr from Rs 5 to Rs 1000 for commercial land and from Rs 2 to Rs 600 for residential land is oppressive.

This was the finding of the committee after threadbare discussion and interacting with the people of different strata of the society, he said, adding the state government has been blocking economic growth of aam admi by forcefully imposing heavy land revenue.

“The state lacks standard growth of real estate, retail, hospitality & agricultural industries, corporate and other commercial activities, production, markets and investment while imposed rates of land revenue are highest in the history,” he said.

“Land revenue depends on market value of the area and availability where as the state with minimum commercial establishments barely sustain the denizens but leads to unemployment and rising poverty. Growth of production and occupational structure is declining contrary to rising tax and revenue,” he said.
