Bokajan, Oct 2: As part of the continuous measure to strengthen the interl security apparatus in the hill district, the Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police, Dr GV Siva Prasad iugurated the Karagaon Police Patrol Post to enhance policing in Assam-galand inter-State border areas here on Monday. The iugural function was attended by MLA Dr Numal Momin, and KAAC EM Madhujya Dhekial Phukan and district police officials, besides a large gathering of locals.
Earlier on August 20, the Superintendent of Police (SP) iugurated a police patrol post in the Choto Lengri area under limits of Dillai Police Station. As per plans, another patrol post will be set up soon in the iccessible Hatikhuli area under Barpathar Police station bordering Golaghat.  These patrol posts will be of crucial importance to keep a tab on the movement of crimils and will also check the rampant smuggling of stolen vehicles and counterfeit goods along the border. These posts will also eble the police team to respond effectively to the multiple challenges of insurgency, crime and general law-and-order situations in the area.
Insurgency had adversely affected the socio-economic development of the hill district compared to the rest of the State. Developmental projects in the district have long been hampered due to extortions and abductions by the militant groups. Earlier, the police presence was also  restricted to main highways and urban areas in the district making it difficult for the police team to respond effectively to insurgent threats in the area and its suburbs.
Over the years, the Karbi Anglong police have been instrumental in neutralizing the insurgent threat, leading to an improved law-and-order situations in larger parts of the hill district. The dedicated and expanding security cover has assured the public of protection from militant depredations and have also demoralized insurgent groups by denying them soft targets. The denser policing network has also succeeded in building a public resistance against insurgent groups and have prevented extremist movement in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dr Numal Momin lauded the effort of the Superintendent of Police at enhancing the police presence in the vulnerable areas by reducing the response time and generating a better police-public interface. He also called upon the people to work in tandem with the police to check crimil activities so as to bring in peace and harmony and pave way for development in the area.
