Dibrugarh, July 16: A general meeting was held on Sunday at the Sukapha Bhavan, Barbaruah, to form a new political organization named All Assam Shakti Mancha (AASM). In the ceremony, flag was hoisted by noted social worker Ranjit Baruah and lighting of the lamp was carried out by social worker and office-bearer of Jamira division of Sahitya Sabha, Dhijen Sharma. The event was presided over by Kripal Phukar.
Addressing the gathering, the president of the district committee of AASM, Uttam Burhagohain informed the people of the objective of the organization and its list of seven demands which include the introduction of inner-line permits in Assam, women safety and empowerment, stopping the practice of selling the State’s land to non-Assamese and outsiders, making the Assamese language compulsory at all levels in the State and declaring the flood problem of Assam as a national problem. Rajkishore Rajbangshi and Jyotish Baruah were elected as the vice-presidents of the organization.
