NF Railway Headquarters in Maligaon raided by CBI in alleged Rs 158 crore scam

Guwahati: In a sudden move, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials have raided around 14 locations in Guwahati on July 11. The raid has been done in association with a scam of Rs 158 crore in the Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) headquarters in Maligaon.

The CBI reportedly has raided the Northeast Frontier Railway offices, official quarters and private residences. A total of six NF Railway officials’ residences are being raided for allegedly being involved in the multi-crore scam.

As per the media reports, a suo-moto case has been registered by CBI against the six NF Railway (Construction) officials.

The allegedly accused officers are said to have involved in swindling of Rs 158 crore from 2014 to 2018. The alleged involved officers are said to have issued advertisements to a significant number of fake and non-existing newspapers and magazines in Bihar, Central India and North-east India.

The Construction Department of the Northeast Frontier Railway is responsible for the implementation of all sorts of construction works in the northeastern states. However, along with the eight northeastern states, the department also covers some parts of West Bengal and Bihar as well.

Certain important documents along with bank passbooks and computer hard discs have also been seized from the 14 raid locations.
