NFR to Connect all NE State Capitals by 2020

Initiatives underway for increased international rail connectivity with Myanmar, Bangladesh & Nepal.

GUWAHATI, Sept 13: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), which is building rail infrastructure in the region, has targeted to connect all its eight State capitals by 2020.

Sharma, Chief Public Relation Officer, NFR while making a presentation before Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia, Director General, North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said that the Railway is targeting to connect all the North Eastern State capitals by 2020 and initiatives are also being taken for increased international rail connectivity with Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal. Survey is also going on to connect Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh with rail connectivity.

Highlighting the recent developmental activities, Sharma informed that there is no unmanned level crossing in the entire North East Zone. He said safety of the passengers have always been given priority by Indian Railways.

Terming the Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra as an engineering marvel of the Indian Railways, Sharma said that the bridge which is a long cherished dream of the people of Assam is going to be opened very soon.

Dhatwalia on Thursday chaired the monthly Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) meeting held at the NFR headquarters at Maligaon here.

Dhatwalia said that the offices of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in different States under PIB, Prasar Bharti and Bureau of Outreach & Communication can be used by different departments for highlighting their activities.

“Railways is playing a great role in the Northeast connectivity and now the network is getting extended to all the States and even getting linked to the neighbouring countries,” Dhatwalia said.

Dhatwalia exhorted all departments to participate in Swachhata Hi Seva Movement to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15.
