No coalition with BJP in panchayat polls: Atul Bora

JOYSAGAR, Oct 14: “The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is a regional political party which was born from the blood of the martyrs of this land and therefore we, the AGP leaders and the grassroots workers, have a responsibility towards the people and this land. We will not do anything that will threaten this land or the existence of the Assamese people. In the upcoming panchayat elections, the AGP will contest alone and face the voters. We will have not coalition with the ruling BJP. The AGP has many ideological differences with the BJP but only to win the previous election and to defeat the Congress,we had an understanding with the BJP and became a part of the Sarbananda Sonowal government,” said AGP president and State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora on Sunday after hoisting the party flag in the Amguri Public Field where the 34thRaising Day of the party was celebrated.

The Amguri (Sivasagar) Regional Committee of the AGP organized the Raising Day celebrations in Sivasagar district on Sunday where prominent AGP leaders like State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, State Food and Civil Supply Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury, former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and former MP Birendra Prasad Baishya were present.

Earlier, a colorful procession was taken out through Amguri town. The swahidtarpan was performed by Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Keshab Mahanta and Phani Bhusan Choudhury. Speaking on the occasion, Mahanta said that the BJP had a hidden agenda and hence it was working in ways that threatened the indigenous people of Assam. He said that the AGP was opposed to the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2006 and that there were many loopholes in the ongoing NRC update process which could not be overlooked.
