No potato price hike for 10 days

GUWAHATI, May 2: The sudden hike in potato price in the State has prompted newly inducted Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury, who is going to take charge on Thursday, to take stock of the price of the commodity with merchants and asked them not to hike potato price for the next ten days.

Potato is sold at Rs 20 per kg in retail in Guwahati on Thursday.

The meeting held on Thursday was attended by representatives of the Onion and Potato Merchants’ Association and government officials at Janata Bhawan. The merchants’ body has agreed not to hike potato price for the next ten days.

Talking to The Sentinel later, Choudhury said: “I’m going to take charge tomorrow and review the price situation. After ten days I’ll review potato stock and price.”
