Nomination Begins For The First Phase of The Lok Sabha Poll, So Does Campaign

GUWAHATI: Filing of nomination papers for the first phase of the Lok Sabha poll slated for April 11 has started in Assam, and campaign by candidates is also not lagging behind. This is despite the fact that not all parties have named their candidates for the first phase of the poll.

The Congress candidate for Lakhimpur Parliamentary constituency, Anil Borgohain submitted his nomination papers on Wednesday. The last date for filing of nomination papers for the first phase of the poll is March 25.

The Congress has already named 10 candidates for the election. The AGP, on the other hand, is going to name its candidates within a day or two.

Meanwhile, the Congress has started campaigns for its candidates. A procession was taken out in Nagaon on Wednesday with party candidate Pradyut Bordoloi. Speaking on the occasion, MLA Rakibul Hussain said: “This time around, the Congress is set to wrest the Nagaon seat.”

The Congress candidate from Jorhat, Sushanta Borgohain has also started his campaign. In Assam, the Lok Sabha poll is going to be held in three phases – on April 11, 18 and 23.
