Noted litterateur passes away in Sivasagar district

GAURISAGAR: Khagen Baruah, veteran litterateur, educationist, writer, dramatist and life member of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), retired Principal of Gaurisagar Higher Secondary Industrial Institute (HSII) and a resident of Konwerpur Koijan village on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district passed away on Wednesday night. He was 75. Born on November 1, 1944, he was the second son of Jibeswar Baruah and Ratneswari Baruah. He did his schooling from 65 no. Nakatani LP and Nakatain ME School and passed matriculation from Gaurisagar HSII under Gauhati University in 1960. In 1985 he took B.Ed degree from Jorhat BT College. He held the posts of subject teacher, Vice-Principal and got superannuation in 2002 as Principal of Gaurisagar HSII.

He was a devoted writer and has four story books to his credit - Bakul Bonor Cha, Kathasilpa, Tukuracharai Bah and Bhugalir Akhaj. Nagaror naam panchawati, Dawn duwan Aru Chenimorar Chenimai, Moi Amirone koisu and Udmadayanti are translated novels. Akharor lagot dhemali and Bibhinna Bhutor Sadhu are children books. He was also a good dramatist. Amritor Annya Naam, Sandhir Banh and Leta are the widely popular drama which were broadcast on AIR, Dibruagarh. Nila Shiyalor Sadhu, Edin Enekoi Horthat and Ghunusa Barit Din Rati are his one-act plays. He was a popular writer of satire and earned a reputation among the readers of Assam.

His demise was widely mourned in the Konwerpur area as well as in Sivasagar district. A tribute function was held where AXX central committee, Sivasagar Zila Sahitya Sabha, Samannoy Sahitya Sabha, Sivasagar Zila Moina Parijat, Nakatani High School, Gaurisagar HSII, APCU, Gaurisagar Press Club, Dessangmukh Press Club and several organizations offered floral tributes. AXX president Dr Paramanonda Rajbongshi and AASU education secretary Sarat Hazarika have also condoled Khagen Baruah’s demise.
