Notice served for release of SSA teachers' salary, Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan School Association (MSSASA) representing the 12541 trained and untrained teachers teaching in over 5000 SSA supported Schools across the State on September 14 served a demand notice to the State Government through the State Project Director State Education Mission Authority of Meghalaya (SEMAM) for release of their five months salary for the period from April to August 2018 and eight months Arrears Salary of Financial year 2016-17 for the period from July 2016 to February 2017 with ultimatum till September 19.

In the demand notice signed by Aristotle C Rymbai president and H M Marbaniang general secretary, MSSASA requested the Authority Concerned to collectively take the responsibility to manage and arrange funds from other sources at the earliest possibility to solve the critical issue facing by the 12541 SSA teachers and their families members in the State and to release the eight months arrears salary of financial year 2016-17 with effect from July 2016 to February 2017 and five months salary of current academic year from April to August on or before September 19 with intimation to undersigned so that the welfare of the students will not affected in future, failing which the Association will resort to democratic movement started with 2 (two) days "Mass Casual Leave" of all the 12541 SSA Teachers across the state on September 24 to 25 as the first phase followed by 2 (two) days "Hunger Strike" on October 11 and 12 as the second phase as a mark of protest against the State Government and Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of School Education and Literacy, Govt of India for not fulfillment their demands which had affected the economic livelihood of the teachers and their families in various aspects.

This decision was taken at the Central Executive Committee of MSSASA Central Body held on September 13. The move of the association came after the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma reveal that the State government needs another three to four weeks times to be able to release the pending salary to the 12541 SSA teachers during a meeting with the delegation of MSSASA Central Body who met him (Conrad) on September 13.
