NRC workload irks officials

NRC workload irks officials

A CORRESPONDENT

TANGLA, May 9: The State government’s hurry to meet the Supreme Court’s June 30 deadline for the publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam is taking a toll on the handful of officials engaged as Investigating Officers (IO) in the ongoing spot verification of Family Tree Linkage (FTL), alleged some irked officials in Udalguri.

Talking to this correspondent, an investigating officer on condition of anonymity, said that the spot verification should be smooth and for this the authority concerned should not allot as many as six files a day to each of them. “Instead, for smooth investigation, the authority should have allotted three files a day and to meet the workload, should have engaged some more officials,” he added. Spot verification of FTL in various locations of Udalguri district is going on peacefully.
