NSCN-IM Militants Assault AMSU members in Manipur, CM Orders Speedy Arrest

Imphal: In an audacious attack, the suspected militants of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM) allegedly assaulted and extorted a team of All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) and a musical band at Nungba in Tamenglong District.

Following the incident, the Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh ordered the SFs to rush to Tamenglong District and arrest the suspected NSCM-IM militants which had reportedly assaulted AMSU members.

CM N Biren Singh stated that ‘NSCN-IM cadres had used communally inflammatory words. We have rushed police commandos and personnel of 57 Mountain Brigade to nab the accused persons. Such anti-social activities shall never be condoned’.

Reportedly, R.K. Anand, Convenor of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said that the MPCC has strongly condemned the incident and had urged the government to oust the militants of NSCN-IM from Manipur in order to restore peace and law and order in the state and also stop all the illegal activities.

It may be mentioned that the Core Committee of Political Parties in Manipur which is a conglomerate of 10 opposition parties, has also urged the Manipur government to put a check on NSCN-IM activities in the state.

As per R K Anand, the convenor of the political parties’ committee stated that according to the ground rules of the ceasefire agreement between the banned outfit NSCN (I-M) and the Government of India, all sorts of illegal activities are restricted and the NSCM-IM is grossly violating all the norms by carrying out such assaults and extortions in Manipur.
