One arrested for objectionable post on Facebook in Tinsukia

DIGBOI, June 13: Assam Police in Tinsukia district, led by Superintendent of Police Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta, in a special drive against objectionable postings on various social media networking sites, arrested a youth on Wednesday afternoon from Makum in Tinsukia district.

“The arrested youth, who has been identified as Mintu Dehingia (28), son of Debeswar Dehingia of Loharipatti area in Makum, was circulating provocative posts on social media networking sites against the Karbi people centering round the incident of lynching of two persons from Guwahati by a mob in Karbi Anglong on Friday,” said Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta, adding, “Such perverted and anti-social activities either in action or on social media, which are assumed to be misleading and prove detrimental for the State and its people, will not be spared at all.”

Meanwhile, expressing his strong determination to curb the menace of sensitive, undesirable and provocative contents or uploads on any social media networking sites, Mahanta said that the accused was found circulating some sensitive and biased posts from his Facebook account which might cause unrest in Tinsukia district and elsewhere, destabilizing the sense of fraternity among the people. “I am keeping a strong vigil on various social networking sites with all my resources, coordinating with the cyber cells and IT expert team, to ensure that no seeds of violence or riots or whatsoever affecting the normalcy at large are dispersed from my district,” said Mahanta. Based on a case lodged at Makum Police Station at 119/18 u/s 153/153A/153B/ 294/ 505/34 IPC R/W Sec 67 of IT Act, the accused was prosecuted.
