One dead, two injured in Khonsa storm

ITAGAR, May 2: A person died while two others were grievously injured in a storm which hit Khonsa Township, headquarters of Tirap district during the wee hours of May 1.

Many houses were also damaged in the storm, an official report said here today.

The dead identified as Jubir Ahmad (21) and the injured are construction labourers from Karimganj in Assam. The injured have been admitted at District Hospital, Khonsa.

Expressing shock and grief over the accident, Tirap Deputy Commissioner, Ravi Jha has assured to extend all help and cooperation to the victims.

DDMO P Duggong informed that ex-gratia to the deceased and the injured would be paid as per existing norms after completion of all official formalities.

Meanwhile, the Governor J P Rajkhowa has also expressed shock and grieved the dead. He also prayed for early recovering of the injured.

The Governor has announced an amount of Rs 1 lakh to the next to the kin of Jubir Ahmed and amount of Rs 25000 each to the injured. The amount would be placed under Deputy Commissioner for disbursement.

The Governor has once again appealed the people to take necessary precautions and be more careful during tural calamities.

Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has also condoled the death and announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakhs to the next of kin of the diseased family and to the injured person as per norms, the report added.
