One labourer dies, 2 injured

Silchar, July 12: In a most unfortunate incident that took place around 3 pm on Thursday, three labourers engaged in cutting soil from a tilla at Hathikuri under Lakhipur police station came under the debris of tilla. According to the information from the spot, the labourers identified as Faizul Islam Barbhuiya (40), Jainul Haque Barbhuiya (52) and Suman Mohali (15) were loading the soil in two tippers after JCB machine cut them from the tilla. Due to continuing rains, the mass earth of tilla became loose and a portion of it fell on the labourers who were injured seriously. On hearing the shouts and cries of other labourers standing at safe distance, local people rushed to the spot and began rescue operation. While Faizul Islam Barbhuiya and Jainul Haque Barbhuiya were taken to Lakhipur civil hospital, Mohali was rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately the seriously injured Faizul succumbed to his injuries. Two other injured Jainul Haque Barbhuiya and Suman Mohali are recovering. A police team from Lakhipur led by officer-in-charge Inspector Anwar Hussain Choudhury and ASI M N Singh reached the spot. But before that the JCB machine and one tipper made vanishing tricks. The loaded tipper bearing No MZ 01B 6442, was detained by the police. The investigation is on to identify the owners of the JCB and one of the tippers. Faizul Islam Barbhuiya and Jainul Haque Barbhuiya are from Dakshin Mohanpur Part – VII under Sonai police station and Suman Mohali is a resident of Hathikuri village itself.
