One Soldier Martyred and 4 Terrorists Killed in Kashmir's Shopian Encounter

Guwahati: In a fierce encounter between the security forces and terrorist group in Shopian, a Jammu and Kashmir village, one soldier of the Indian Army was martyred on Tuesday morning. In a counter attack, the security force too killed 4 terrorists of the opposite party. Three more army soldiers are injured in the encounter.

The encounter took place following a joint search operation carried out by Army's paratroopers, the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force. The search operation was carried out at Nadigam village 60 km from Srinagar when all of a sudden the terrorists hiding at the place started opening fire at the security forces. The search operation was conducted following intelligence inputs of terrorists hiding in the area and accordingly, the army had launched a pre-dawn search operation.

Srinagar-based defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, "Four terrorists have been killed in the operation in Nadigam area of Shopian."

Army-militants encounter in Jammu and Kashmir have become a routine practice these days with news of casualties from both the sides. It was just two days ago, when two terrorists associated with terror outfit Al-Badr, were killed in an encounter in Rebban area in the district. In another incident that took place on the same day, a jawan was martyred when terrorists opened fire on a CRPF camp in Pulwama.

On November 1 as well, an operation launched by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Badgam district led to the killing of two militants. Police stated, “Security forces launched an operation based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Zagoo locality of Khansahib area in the district. The hiding militants fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight. Searches are ongoing in the village.”

Before this as well, in a major counter-insurgency retaliation, the Security Forces killed two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants in an operation against the Islamic terror operatives who were holed up in a forest area in Jammu’s Katra.
