SIVASAGAR/JOYSAGAR, May 16: In a sensational incident, an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) officer was arrested by the sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday in Sivasagar. The officer, identified as Arabinda Kumar Singh, was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a contractor, Jitu Hazarika (Babujaan). According to sources, Singh had allegedly taken Rs 2 lakh as bribe in advance from the contractor earlier also. Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 12 lakh in total from Hazarika for awarding him a Rs 3-crore contract. The contractor informed the CBI office in Guwahati and filed a complaint. A team of officials from Guwahati CBI office reached Sivasagar after the complaint. As per the plan, CBI sleuths laid a trap and caught the DGM red-handed while accepting bribe on Wednesday. Singh is the Deputy General Manager of DBG, ONGC, Sivasagar.
